WHAT IS ART CLOTH?
Art cloth is created by layering dye and paint processes to give depth and dimension to the fabric. Whole lengths of cloth have been manipulated; dyed and/or discharged (color removed), stamped, foiled, stenciled, rusted, glued, and more, or less, to affect the appearance. Art cloth may have multiple points of interest along its length, instead of the traditional repeat of commercial fabric.
The answer to why I do surface design on cloth when there is so much fabric commercially available is the same answer as to why weavers weave cloth. I simply love to play with color! I utilize my art cloth in quilt design, wearables and silk scarves.
