Color has mesmerized me, ever since autographing my aunt's bathroom wall with ruby-red lipstick, at age four. As I matured, so did my interest in fiber: garment-making, wearable art, needlepoint, weaving, and knitting. My path eventually wound full-circle to quilt-making and surface design combining my love of sewing, with my passion for color.
Photographs taken on trips inspire many of my designs. While some are shooting the sculpture, I am capturing the floor. I have always been intrigued by surfaces and textures; patterns in nature and architecture.
Surface design on cloth continues to delight me. I work spontaneously in applying color to the textile. Yet much contemplation and effort goes into the original imagery which marks the cloth. Images based on old personal issues or new stories blossom into glorious cloth.
My current project is a "body of work"; an art quilt series creating a visual journal of my journey as "the tall girl."
